What is Bokwa Fitness?
Bokwa® is a new and completely different approach to group exercise that is rapidly spreading across the globe.
Bokwa® participants draw letters and numbers with their feet while performing an energizing and addictive cardio workout routine. Moving together to today’s most popular music!
No Counting Steps
Because Bokwa® steps are structured and based on the forms of letters and numbers, doing Bokwa® does not require you to count steps, like a traditional 8 count followed by most dance fitness programs. Simply feel the music and freely move with the beat. And the dozens of other class participants that are sharing the energy and excitement with you.
No Choreography
Once you know the step, you own it and can do it without following an instructor’s personal choreography. Because the steps follow the same structure, whether you are doing it in Taiwan, Australia, England or the US, Bokwa® is truly universal.
Today’s Popular Radio Hits
We do Bokwa® to popular music that appeals to a global audience. The music is energizing and addictive and it is likely the same feel good songs you listen to in your car.
Everyone Can Do Bokwa®.
Because the steps are structured as letters and numbers everyone can do Bokwa®. 4-year-old kids.75 year old men and women. People with two left feet who cannot dance. World champion Latin and ballroom dancers. All having a terrific experience in the same class!
It Does Not Feel Like Working Out At All.
Because of the energizing music, the fun and predictable steps and great motivation coming from people moving together to music, participants become addicted to Bokwa®. You would not even realize you were burning up to 1,200 calories in one workout.
Be warned though Bokwa is truly addictive!

Bokwa Fitness is a relatively new and unique form of group fitness that has quickly gained popularity around the world. It combines elements of dance, cardio, and strength training to create a high-energy, full-body workout experience. Bokwa is a trademarked fitness program that was developed by international fitness and dance expert, Paul Mavi.
The word “Bokwa” is derived from the word “Bo”, which means boxing and “Kwa” which comes from Kwaito, a popular form of South African dance. This reflects the roots of Bokwa, as it was first developed in South Africa in 2000. However, it wasn’t until 2012 that Bokwa Fitness was officially launched in the United States and has since expanded to over 150 countries.
Bokwa Fitness is based on the concept of “Sweat the alphabet” where each move is based on a letter or number. This makes it easy to follow and suitable for people of all ages, fitness levels, and backgrounds. Unlike other dance fitness programs, Bokwa does not require any choreography, making it accessible to everyone. Participants simply follow the instructor’s lead as they draw letters and numbers with their feet while performing various cardio and strength exercises.
One of the main reasons for Bokwa’s popularity is its inclusivity. Bokwa is not just a fitness class, it’s a community. It encourages people of all shapes, sizes, and ages to come together to have fun and get fit. This creates a supportive and non-judgmental environment, which is often lacking in traditional fitness classes. Bokwa is also suitable for individuals with physical limitations, as the moves can be modified to accommodate any injuries or disabilities.
Another aspect that sets Bokwa apart from other fitness programs is its focus on mental well-being. Bokwa is not just about getting physically fit, but also about improving mental and emotional health. The high-energy and upbeat music, combined with the fun and social atmosphere, creates a positive and uplifting experience for participants. Many Bokwa enthusiasts have reported feeling more confident, energized, and stress-free after attending classes regularly.
Bokwa Fitness also offers a wide range of health benefits. The high-intensity cardio and strength training exercises help to improve cardiovascular health, increase stamina, and burn calories. Bokwa also incorporates functional movements, which improve balance, coordination, and flexibility. Additionally, the constant movement and coordination required in Bokwa can help improve brain function and cognitive abilities.
Aside from the physical and mental benefits, Bokwa also has a strong cultural influence. As mentioned earlier, Bokwa originated in South Africa and incorporates elements of African dance and culture. This has allowed Bokwa to become a platform for cultural exchange and appreciation. It has also been used as a tool for social change and empowerment in disadvantaged communities, providing a positive outlet for expression and connection.
Bokwa Fitness has quickly gained recognition in the fitness industry, with its unique and inclusive approach to exercise. It has been featured in major fitness conventions, competitions, and events around the world. Bokwa instructors undergo extensive training to ensure they provide a safe and effective workout experience for participants. The program is constantly evolving, with new moves and routines being introduced regularly to keep the classes fresh and exciting.
In conclusion, Bokwa Fitness is more than just a fitness program, it’s a movement that brings people together to have fun, get fit, and improve their overall well-being. Its inclusive nature, focus on mental health, and cultural influence make it a unique and popular form of exercise. With its growing popularity and continuous development, Bokwa is sure to make a lasting impact in the fitness industry for years to come.
