Dublin Airport Authority Outsource 600 Jobs
The Dublin Airport Authority is to outsource it's 600 hundred search / security workers. The decision was made 17 May and all workers were informed. What this means to the employees of the company is that their jobs will be gone as they are made redundant. The workers can then reapply for their jobs again under different conditions. A worker with 5 years service can expect to receive around thirty thousand euro in redundancy payment. Workers for the authority currently earn in the region of twenty euro an hour but when they are re-hired their salary will be twelve euro fifty cents an hour and that's if they are lucky enough to be taken back.
The Irish government pays redundancy payments to all workers made redundant. This is called statutory redundancy and consists of 2 weeks pay for every year works for a company. The rest of the redundancy payment comes from the company concerned. Companies in Ireland have recently seen the benefits of outsourcing jobs. The idea behind this is to sack workers and let the taxpayer pay their entitlements and then re-hire the same people for less money than they were originally on.
Recruitment has now started for the 500 jobs that will be created for the new termanal at Dublin Airport which will open in November

A judge in Dublin's high court has overturned the Minister For Transport's decision to allow the 41x bus to use The Dublin Port Tunnel. A private bus company, ''Swords Express'' brought the action against Dublin Bus. The court ruling was made because the Swords Express service was using the tunnel first. MSD Swords To Close Down
Pharmaceutical firm MSD [ Formally Organon ] has announced plans to close its plant in Swords in North Co Dublin by the end of 2017, which will result in the loss of 570 jobs.
The company said today that no job losses would occur before the middle of next year at the earliest, but said it plans to lay off about 130 people in the second half of 2014.
The rest of the jobs at Swords will be phased out over the next three years.
The Swords plant makes a range of family planning products and a treatment for fertility for sale to 50 countries world wide.
The company said the proposed action is as a result of its on going review of its worldwide manufacturing capabilities.
It said it plans to work with IDA Ireland to aggressively pursue a buyer for the facility in order to potentially mitigate job losses.
MSD also employs over 2,000 people in Carlow, Cork, Leopardstown, Tipperary and Wicklow. These sites are not affected by today's announcement.
It announced the closure of the site in Rathdrum, Co Wicklow last March. That site is expected to close by the end of 2015.
"Swords has been an important manufacturing site since 1990 and has a long history of operational excellence," according to Tony Pusic, MSD'S Site Director.
"The proposal to cease operations is not a reflection of the site's performance or the highly skilled people working here. The proposal is an outcome of MSD's ongoing review of its worldwide manufacturing capacity that has resulted in sites being sold, closed or consolidated in all regions of the world,' he added.
